High-Pressure Hydraulic Tools and Key Tips for Using

2024-03-13

Hydraulics works with pressurized fluid and the pressure required for the operation of each system will vary depending on the requirements. It is a hydraulic pump that performs the duty of pressurizing the fluid. Positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, rotary pumps, and reciprocating pumps are different pump categories that can raise fluid pressure. The different factors that depend on the pressure generation are the pump drive mechanism used, the amount of applied external power, and how well the pump is sealed. The need for high-pressure pumps is there in commercial, industrial, and residential settings. I.e.; machinery in building & jig construction, hydraulic power jacks, amusement park rides, cleaning machines, testing machines, etc… use high-pressure pumps for operation.

What are called high-pressure hydraulic tools? High-pressure tools are hydraulic systems that operate at a pressure greater than 450 bar. Mostly, these high-pressure systems are suitable for handling heavy loads. Pressure is measured as force per unit of area.

How is hydraulic pressure measured? A pressure gauge is the most common and simple equipment for measuring hydraulic pressure. Permanently fixed pressure gauges can get damaged easily because of accumulated dirt, resulting in incorrect pressure readings. To ensure the accurate working of pressure gauges, a portable pressure testing kit can be integrated with the design.

What are the benefits of high-pressure hydraulic tools? As mentioned, high-pressure tools are mostly preferred for heavy loads and they help to make the entire hydraulic system compact. I.e; as per Pascal’s law, force is directly proportional to pressure and area. So, to produce the required force, it is possible to double the hydraulic pressure by reducing the total area to half.

Extreme pressure will cause extreme stress on machine components. This is the primary reason why systems operating under high pressure always need to be monitored at regular intervals. Because any failures in such a system can cause severe safety hazards. Also, there is a high possibility for these systems to fail, if proper maintenance is not followed. Due to the risk of hazards, it is always advised to follow safety guidelines, which include wearing gloves, boots, safety glasses, or safety shoes while working with the machinery and making a complete understanding of the system prior to starting work. When considering a system having 700 bar working pressure, all components including the weakest part must be compatible with this high pressure. In any circumstances, if this pressure exceeds the pre-defined limit, the hydraulic system will malfunction.
