Inadequate Installation Practices

The incorrect installation of a hydraulic seal can lead to various failure modes, stemming from factors such as cleanliness, improper handling, contamination, or an unsuitable choice for the specific application. Furthermore, successful installation necessitates a deep understanding of both the seal and the equipment it serves. A frequent issue involves the improper orientation of seals, often leading to fluid leakage. Mishandling can also result in tears or nicks in the seals, eventually culminating in failure after prolonged usage.

Contamination

Contamination arises when foreign particles infiltrate the hydraulic rod system. These particles, such as dust, mud, swarf, fine powders, and other minute elements, have the potential to adhere to the hydraulic piston and subsequently contaminate the sealing mechanism.

Heat Erosion

Heat erosion or deterioration can lead hydraulic seals to melt or become brittle, ultimately resulting in cracks. The operating temperature and continuous friction can substantially reduce the lifespan of hydraulic seals, underscoring the importance of regularly inspecting them for signs of heat-related degradation.

Chemical Erosion

Preventing chemical erosion typically involves selecting seal materials that are compatible with the specific chemicals present in the application. The effectiveness of seals in mitigating potential degradation effects depends on factors such as the type of lubrication used and the nature of the chemicals encountered in the hydraulic equipment. Chemicals that may corrode one type of material may have a milder impact on another.
